Google Pixel 9: New Information and Leaks

The latest leak about the upcoming Google Pixel 9 series includes details on the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. While nothing new has been revealed about the Pixel 9 Pro XL, it’s nice to see these devices side by side for the first time.

Comparison of Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL

Both phones have a matte finish on the back and are very similar in size. However, the differences between them quickly become apparent. The Pixel 9 Pro XL features a flat frame, unlike the curved edges of the Pixel 8 Pro. The camera bars also differ – the camera bar on the Pixel 9 Pro XL does not reach the edges and has a more oval shape. Both phones have rounded corners.

The Pixel 9 Pro XL will be unveiled on Tuesday, August 13, during the Made by Google event, along with the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel 9 Pro XL, the first XL version since 2019, is expected to have a 6.5-inch screen compared to the 6.1-inch screen of the Pixel 9 Pro.

Specifications and New Features

In addition to the mentioned design changes, both Pro models are expected to have similar features. Both are anticipated to be equipped with main, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras, and heavily integrated with Google’s Gemini AI tools.

We also recently learned about the specifications of the Pixel 9 Pro XL, which may have 16 GB of RAM. So far, no Pixel phone has been equipped with more than 12 GB of RAM.

In recent days, Google has released teasers for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. We have yet to see official information regarding the standard Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, but Google may release something soon.

Leaks show a sample design of the Pixel 9 Pro XL in an advanced stage. It's clear that this is not a retail unit due to the interesting geometric pattern under the “G” logo on the back of the phone. Since this is almost certainly a design sample, the device may not be fully functional.

Conclusions from the Leaks

Nevertheless, the information gives us a great insight into the phone’s design. We see it not only on its own but also next to other popular phones, including the Pixel 8 Pro and Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The rest of the leaks cover various information that has already been discussed before. For the Pixel 9 Pro XL, we expect a Tensor G4 chipset, a 6.8-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and QuadHD+ resolution, 16GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage in the base version. We also expect a 50MP main camera, supported by a 48MP ultra-wide and a 48MP periscope telephoto lens. The front will likely feature a 42MP sensor.

Google plans to launch the Pixel 9 series on August 13. We expect to see the standard Pixel 9 along with a similarly sized Pixel 9 Pro. Additionally, there will almost certainly be a larger Pro model named Pixel 9 Pro XL. Finally, the lineup will include a foldable version known as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
